Introduction: Zhang graduated from Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts and taught there. During his half-century painting career, he was very interested in people’s livelihood and nature and created many excellent works with a realist artistic spirit. He is particularly skilled at painting Chinese landscapes, flowers and birds, and tigers. Not only are his works full of the charm of traditional Chinese paintings, but he also adopts Western painting styles in both shape, light, and color composition. Art critics Sun Meilan, Zhou Jiyin, Wang Weisheng, Cui Qingzhong, etc. commented Zhang's art positively.
Notable accomplishments: The artist had solo exhibitions in the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts Art Museum in 1982, Seoul in 1990, and Niigata Hall in 1995. The landscape "Mountain Soul" won Tokyo Ink Painting Exhibition's special award in 1998. In 2003, his work "Lotus Pond" was selected to participate in the Second National Chinese Painting Exhibition, and in the same year he won the Excellence Award of the National Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition for his work "Scary Wind". He was invited to join the 2007 "Cultural Heritage and Development" National Famous Artists Exhibition. He was featured in publications such as "Inheritance and Development" National Academic Invitation Exhibition of Famous Chinese Painting Artists.
